I’m off to South America!

by Jacob on September 18, 2013

Dear Friends:

I just landed in Port of Spain, Trinidad where I will be starting my epic South American adventure. On Friday, I embark on the National Geographic Explorer, which will be my home for over 30 days. The journey brings me to Trinidad, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and the entire coast of Brazil. I disembark in Paranagua on October 19th.

During our journey, I have arranged appearances by some amazing musical talents, including Kobo Town from Trinidad, Chris Combette from French Guiana, Dona Onete in Belem, Brazil, the legendary Ilê Aiyê in Salvador, Bahia, the lovely samba singer Teresa Cristina, who will be performing for us at the Rio Scenarium, Luísa Maita, whose band will be traveling with the ship for four days, and finally Quarcheto in Rio Grande do Sul.

To learn more about the trip, check here.

While internet access on board the ship is slow, I will be doing my best to post occasional updates to this blog. Stay tuned for some photos, music links and comments on Port of Spain, as I head out into the streets today!

All the best,
